As of January 1st 2012, nurses practicing in Quebec are required to devote a minimum of 20 hours per year to continuing education, seven (7) of which must be in an accredited activity, in accordance with the Norme professionnelle de formation continue adopted by the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ).
A selection of accredited activities can be found via the OIIQ’s continuing education portal, Mistral. MUHC Library staff have also identified several organisations that offer continuing education credits online.
Time spent reading journal articles can also be considered an accredited activity when the journal or website provides CEUs (continuing education units), following the successful completion of a quiz or test.
Journals including CE articles or modules
A list of nursing titles that include CE articles or modules is available here.
Alert Service
MUHC Librarians have developed a monthly alert service whereby MUHC nurses will be notified when articles that can be recognized for their continuing education units are published.
Each month recipients will be able to access an updated list of recently published articles that include CE units – including links to the CE test and the number of accredited hours for each article. Each article will be from a journal available electronically within the MUHC and is accessible from any networked computer within the hospital.
